2018 Makeup Contest

Amanda McGahey wins the 2017 Crypticon

The Crypticon Seattle Makeup is returning for its 9th year in 2018! The competition features 5 artists applying makeup before a live audience at the convention.

All artists have access to a professional stage makeup kit supplied by Kryolan Professional Make-up, along with a limited supply of items from the contest pantry.

Prior to the contest, our competitors receive a briefing on the competition as well as the theme for this year’s contest. Our 2017 contest theme was “Sin-O-Bits”: artists conceptualized an original Cenobite character, complete with backstory and the option to fabricate a piece to be worn by a model, chosen at random.

Artists then had 2 hours to finish their creation and tell the woeful tale of their flesh-bound demon.

At the end of two hours, the artists’ creations will be judged by a panel of industry professionals on technique, design, artistic creativity and originality, and adherence to theme.

The 2018 competition is now open and we’ll accept competition entries until March 20th, 2018.

Our past winners include Dutch Bihary, of Game Show Network’s hit series “Skin Wars”, Kenneth Calhoun, and up and coming winner of the 2014 contest, Erik Albidress.

Our 2018 competition is open for entry now and we will accept entries up to the cutoff on March 20th, 2018.

At this time we will tally our entries and if necessary, conduct an elimination round at a local sponsor. Finally, the final 5 will compete at the convention.
