2017 Makeup Contest
Hannah Sturtevant wins the 2016 Crypticon Seattle Makeup Contest
The Crypticon Seattle Makeup is returning for its 8th year in 2017! The competition features 5 artists applying makeup before a live audience at the convention. All artists have access to a professional stage makeup kit supplied by Kryolan Professional Make-up, along with a limited supply of items from the contest pantry. Prior to the contest our competitors receive a briefing of the competition as well as the theme for this year’s contest. Our 2016 contest theme was “Cap’n Crunch and Zombie Pirates of the High Seas”- artists had to construct a zombie pirate using makeup and breakfast cereal after an hour of preparation.
At the end of two hours, the artists’ creations will be judged by a panel of industry professionals on technique, design, artistic creativity and originality, and adherence to theme. The 2017 competitions is now open and we’ll accept competition entries until March 13th, 2017.
The Grand Prize for 2017 is a Professional Makeup Kit from Kryolan Professional Make-up; a year subscription to Stan Winston School of Character Arts – with unlimited access to online web-tutorials; and a year’s subscription and 2 tickets to IMATS Vancouver (October 2017) courtesy of Make-Up Artist magazine.
The Grand Prize winner of the 2016 competition, Hannah Sturtevant received:
An all-access 1 year subscription to the Stan Winston School, including unlimited access to their on-demand webcourses by The Masters of FX, with new webcourses added every month, a 20% discount on live webcourses from Stan Winston School and a free Stan Winston School t-shirt. She also received a hand made sculpture trophy from Tim Peirson of A Cast of Thousands Studio. Lastly, she received RIP City FX Blood Paste and a bottle of Fast Liquidz Platinum, new waterproof spray-on colors for quick and easy application and a year subscription to Make-up Artist Magazine.

Our second runner- Amanda McGahey- up will receive a 1 Month subscription to the Stan Winston School. Our Judges for 2016’s competition were: the 2015 Crypticon Seattle Makeup Contest winner, Jennifer Frazier Luke; 2011 Contest winner Kenneth Calhoun – a professional artist working under Emmy Award winning Brian Sipe; finally- Claire Brooksbank, who continues her work on the Syfy hit series, Z Nation.
Our 2017 competition is open for entry now and we will accept entries up to the cutoff on March 13th, 2017. At this time we will tally our entries and if necessary, conduct an elimination round at a local sponsor. Finally, the final 5 will compete at the convention.

Every year at the end of October a fearsome shadow falls over Beaver Lake Park. A group of demented, dedicated volunteers crawl out to assemble an event that will leave you screaming.
